CONSULTATIONS

OFFICE CONSULTATION

What to expect:

  • Duration of first visit: 30-60 minutes

  • We will review your surgical goals and medical/surgical history.

    • 2nd opinion consultations require operative reports for prior genitourinary surgeries (examples: phalloplasty, metoidioplasty by different surgeons, urethroplasty, implant surgery, others).

    • Please provide these reports with your intake forms prior to your consultation so the records can be reviewed to streamline the consult.

  • A physical exam will then be performed.

  • Surgical discussion including risks and benefits of surgery will be reviewed in detail.

  • If surgery is desired and deemed safe by the surgeon, we will start the process of scheduling.

  • Please have your letters ready by the time of consultation. If you do not have them, we can still schedule a consultation but letters should be ready by the time of the surgery. Surgery will not be scheduled until we have the letters.

*IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING PHONE/VIDEO CONSULTATIONS

  • These are convenient but not ideal.

  • In person evaluation provides more accurate assessments and estimations of what to expect with surgery.

  • Some patients may experience frustration with the discordance between what they were told on the phone/video session versus what they are told after an in-person evaluation. Please understand that this can happen if a phone/video consultation is elected. Our strong preference remains avoiding a phone/video consultation and making an in-person office consultation. An added benefit is our ability to bill insurance for an office visit; phone/video calls are infrequently reimbursed by insurance and incur a $250 fee.
